What is Aurora?
Aurora is an Ethereum Virtual Machine environment that runs on NEAR Protocol, letting developers deploy Solidity smart contracts and Ethereum-style applications on top of NEAR's infrastructure. It works through the Aurora Engine, an EVM implemented as a contract on NEAR, paired with the Rainbow Bridge for moving assets between Ethereum, NEAR, and Aurora. On Aurora, transaction fees are paid in ETH rather than the AURORA token. The project has since expanded into a framework for launching customizable EVM-compatible chains.
AURORA is primarily a governance token. Holders can vote on proposals through the AuroraDAO, the council that steers how the protocol evolves. The token generation event took place in November 2021, when Aurora Labs first brought the network into general availability.
Aurora sits within the broader NEAR ecosystem, so its activity is tied to both EVM developers and NEAR adoption. You can track the Aurora price and store AURORA in a self-custody wallet, keeping control of your own assets.

Where can I hold Aurora?
