What is XPR Network?
XPR Network (XPR), formerly known as Proton, is a layer-1 proof-of-stake blockchain aimed at everyday payments and consumer apps. It uses human-readable account names instead of long wallet strings, offers near-instant settlement with no gas fees for end users, and builds on-chain identity and compliance features into the protocol.
XPR is the network's native token. It is used to pay for network resources, to stake for rewards and help secure the chain, and to vote on governance decisions. The blockchain runs WebAssembly smart contracts and uses a delegated proof-of-stake consensus model.
The network launched its mainnet in 2020 as Proton and rebranded to XPR Network in 2024. It is an established chain rather than a brand-new project, though activity and adoption vary over time.
