What is Prom?
Prom is a scalable Layer 2 network built with Polygon's chain development kit, using zero-knowledge proof technology to keep transactions fast and cheap while settling to a base chain. It started life in 2019 as the Prometeus Network, a decentralized marketplace for data exchange, and has since shifted its focus toward general-purpose scaling infrastructure for EVM applications.
PROM is the network's token. It is used for governance voting, for paying transaction and service fees, and for accessing network services. The token trades as a BEP-20 asset on BNB Smart Chain and as an ERC-20 asset on Ethereum, reflecting its cross-chain history.
The project has gone through more than one strategic pivot, so treat it as a maturing protocol rather than a settled one.
