What is IOST?
IOST is a layer-1 blockchain that has refocused on tokenizing real-world assets and supporting Web3 payments, aiming to bridge traditional finance and on-chain systems. It runs a Proof-of-Believability consensus and offers EVM-compatible environments so developers can port applications from Ethereum and other EVM chains.
IOST is the network's native token, used to pay for transactions and participate in securing the chain. The original blockchain launched in 2019 after a 2018 token sale, and the project has since expanded with a BNB Chain layer-2 deployment and a 2025 funding round to grow its tokenized-asset infrastructure in regulated markets. As the project has pivoted toward real-world assets, its roadmap and product set continue to evolve.
