aelf is a modular layer-1 blockchain built for high throughput and decentralized applications, with a recent focus on AI-driven use cases. It uses a multi-chain design with parallel processing, so a main chain coordinates a set of side chains rather than forcing all activity through one ledger. The protocol is written in C#, which lets developers from the .NET ecosystem build on it more easily.
The network runs on a delegated proof-of-stake model, where token holders vote to elect the block producers that secure the chain. ELF is the native token and launched in 2017. It is used to pay transaction fees, to stake for network resources, and to participate in on-chain governance such as voting on protocol upgrades.
