Band Protocol is a decentralized oracle network that delivers external data, such as asset prices, to blockchain applications. Smart contracts cannot read information from outside their own chain on their own, so projects rely on oracles like Band to bring real-world data on-chain in a way that can be verified. Band has been operating since 2018 and now feeds data to applications across more than 40 different networks.
The protocol is built as its own Cosmos SDK chain (BandChain), with a validator set that gathers and reports data. BAND is the native token. It is staked by validators and delegators to secure the network, used to pay for data requests, and used to vote on governance decisions.
