What is ARK?
ARK is a Layer 1 blockchain and development platform built to let people launch their own customizable, interoperable blockchains. Its open-source stack is written largely in TypeScript and uses a delegated proof-of-stake consensus, where token holders vote for a set of validators who produce blocks and earn rewards for the work.
ARK is the native coin of the ARK network. It pays transaction fees and is used to vote for and reward the delegates who secure the chain. The project ran its token sale in 2016 and brought its public network live in 2017, making it one of the longer-running blockchain platforms.
As an established but smaller project, ARK competes with many newer app-chain and smart-contract platforms, so its relevance depends on continued development and use.
You can track the ARK price and hold ARK in a self-custody wallet.
