What is Anvil?
Anvil is a set of Ethereum smart contracts for managing collateral and issuing fully secured credit. Its core idea is an onchain letter of credit, similar to a bank-guaranteed payment instrument, where funds are verified and locked so a payment is backed by real collateral. Users deposit assets into vaults, issue collateral-backed letters of credit, and supply vault tokens to collateral pools, which makes it a collateral primitive other DeFi applications can build on.
ANVL is the protocol's governance token. Holders vote on protocol updates, which assets are supported, and approvals for external contracts, and in some applications ANVL can itself be used as collateral. It is an ERC-20 token associated with the Acronym Foundation.
As a specialized DeFi credit protocol, Anvil carries smart-contract and collateral risks, so understand how its vaults and letters of credit work before engaging.
