What is Quai Network?

Quai Network is a proof-of-work layer-1 blockchain designed to scale by splitting work across many parallel chains. It uses a hierarchical structure of Prime, Region, and Zone chains that are merge-mined together, so the network can grow without dividing its mining power. The chains are compatible with the Ethereum Virtual Machine, letting developers deploy Ethereum-style smart contracts. Quai uses a dual-token model. QUAI is the primary network asset, used to pay gas on the programmable chains and as a mining reward, while a second unit, QI, is an energy-pegged token also emitted through mining. The network's consensus, called Proof-of-Entropy-Minima, is meant to reduce block contention and speed up finality while keeping proof-of-work security.
