What is Decred?
Decred is a cryptocurrency that launched in 2016 with a hybrid proof-of-work and proof-of-stake consensus design. The hybrid model lets miners and DCR holders jointly participate in validating blocks, giving stakeholders more direct influence over the network than pure PoW chains. Governance is a core feature: DCR holders can vote on protocol upgrades, treasury spending, and consensus rules, making on-chain governance central to how the project operates.
