What is Ontology Gas?
Ontology Gas (ONG) is the utility token that powers transactions on the Ontology blockchain, a network focused on decentralized digital identity and data. ONG is spent to pay transaction fees and run smart contracts, acting as the gas that fuels activity across the network.
Ontology uses a dual-token model. ONT is the governance token that is staked to help secure the network, while ONG is the fee token that holders earn as a reward for staking ONT. Separating the two helps keep transaction costs more predictable and decoupled from the governance token's value. Ontology launched its mainnet in 2018, and ONG has been part of the design since the network went live.
