What is Euler?
Euler is a non-custodial lending protocol on Ethereum that lets users lend, borrow, and create custom money markets for ERC-20 tokens. It was built to extend lending beyond the most liquid assets, using a risk-based framework to support a wider range of tokens than older protocols. Euler v2, released in 2024, reworked the design into a modular system where anyone can deploy and connect lending vaults.
EUL is the governance token. Holders can delegate votes and steer protocol parameters, asset listings, and the DAO treasury, and the token also features in the protocol's fee mechanisms.
The original Euler launched in 2022 and suffered a major flash-loan exploit in March 2023, after which most funds were recovered and the protocol relaunched following extensive audits. That history is worth knowing before using it.
