What is Core?
Core is a Layer 1 blockchain built to make Bitcoin productive by supporting staking, DeFi, and EVM-compatible smart contracts. Because it runs the Ethereum Virtual Machine, developers can deploy familiar Ethereum-style applications while the network draws security from Bitcoin.
Core uses a hybrid consensus called Satoshi Plus, which combines Bitcoin mining power, Bitcoin holder timelocking, and staking of the CORE token. CORE is the native token: it pays transaction fees, is used for governance and staking, and unlocks higher yields in the network's Bitcoin staking design. Core launched its mainnet in January 2023 and has a fixed maximum supply of 2.1 billion CORE.
You can track the Core price and hold CORE in a self-custody wallet.
