What is BOB (Build on Bitcoin)?
BOB, short for Build on Bitcoin, is a hybrid Layer 2 network that aims to bring decentralized finance to Bitcoin while keeping Ethereum tooling. It is built on the OP Stack and is EVM compatible, so developers can write standard smart contracts and applications. Its mainnet went live in 2024, and BOB joined Optimism's Superchain later that year as a member of that group of OP Stack chains.
The project's goal is to let people put Bitcoin to work in DeFi without giving up custody to a centralized intermediary. It uses a BitVM based design for bridging BTC, and a later phase adds Bitcoin staking to provide finality. The BOB token arrived in late 2025 through a token generation event. It is issued on the BOB network with a fixed supply, and it is used for governance, staking, and network utility.
As a newer chain still rolling out parts of its roadmap, BOB is best understood as an evolving project rather than a settled one. You can track the BOB price and keep BOB in a self-custody wallet that you control.
