What is Babylon?
Babylon is a Bitcoin staking protocol. It lets holders stake native BTC to help secure proof-of-stake networks without bridging or wrapping their coins, so the Bitcoin stays on the Bitcoin chain under the owner's control. This is part of a broader effort to put idle Bitcoin to work securing other systems, often called BTCfi.
BABY is the native gas and governance token of Babylon Genesis, the project's own Layer 1 chain. It is used to pay transaction fees, vote on protocol upgrades, and secure the network in a dual-staking model alongside staked BTC. BABY launched in 2025 with the Genesis chain and an initial supply of 10 billion tokens, distributed in part through an airdrop to early Bitcoin stakers.
As a newer protocol introducing native Bitcoin staking, it carries the usual risks of an early system, so review how staking and slashing work before participating.
