What is Turbo?

Turbo is a memecoin that began in April 2023 as an experiment in pairing artificial intelligence with crypto. Its creator, artist Rhett Mankind, used OpenAI's GPT-4 and a starting budget of about 69 dollars to design the token, then handed control to the community. TURBO is an ERC-20 token on Ethereum with a fixed supply of 69 billion, and a bridged version also trades on Solana. It carries no formal utility beyond being a community and culture token, and its branding centers on a toad mascot. The contract has been renounced, meaning no central party can change it. As a memecoin, TURBO has no underlying product or cash flow, and its value rests on community attention rather than fundamentals. Its price has been highly volatile.
