What is Berachain?

Berachain is a Layer 1 blockchain that is built to be compatible with the Ethereum Virtual Machine, so applications written for Ethereum can run on it with little change. Its defining feature is a consensus design called proof of liquidity, which ties network rewards to liquidity that users supply to approved applications rather than to staking alone. The network launched its mainnet in February 2025 and uses a three-token model. BERA is the native asset that pays gas fees and is staked by validators. A separate governance token, BGT, is earned through activity and can be converted into BERA, while a dollar-pegged stablecoin called HONEY is used within the ecosystem.
