How Songbird works.
Songbird reaches consensus through a Federated Byzantine Agreement modeled on the Avalanche protocol for fast transaction finality, and is EVM compatible so existing Solidity tooling works on it. Its distinguishing feature is the Flare Time Series Oracle (FTSO), a price-oracle system built directly into the protocol rather than run by a separate service: roughly 100 independent data providers submit price feeds, SGB holders delegate their vote power to the providers they trust, outlying votes are trimmed, and a weighted result becomes the network’s onchain price data.

FTSO price oracle
Flare Time Series Oracle is an enshrined, delegated oracle: data providers submit price feeds and SGB holders delegate vote power to the providers they trust, rather than the network depending on one external price feed.
Delegation without a validator lockup
Holders can delegate SGB vote power to an FTSO data provider to earn a share of oracle rewards, a separate process from staking SGB to secure the network through validators.
EVM compatibility
Songbird supports standard Solidity contracts and Ethereum developer tooling.
