Qubic is a Layer 1 that uses useful Proof of Work, directing mining toward AI training rather than arbitrary hashing. It has feeless transfers and a native token, QUBIC.
Qubic is a Layer 1 network that runs on useful Proof of Work, which directs the energy spent mining toward training artificial intelligence rather than solving arbitrary puzzles. It went live in April 2022, processes transactions in synchronized ticks with instant finality, and uses a quorum of computing nodes to reach agreement. Here is how it works and what it is used for, not the price.

Value locked in DeFi protocols on Qubic. Updated Jun 8, 2026. Source: DefiLlama.
Qubic is secured by 676 nodes called Computors. Transactions are grouped into short time intervals called ticks, and a tick is finalized when at least 451 of the 676 Computors agree, which gives instant finality with no waiting for confirmations. Mining uses useful Proof of Work: miners solve AI training tasks, and the most efficient ones are promoted to Computor status each weekly epoch. The mining work feeds Aigarth, the network research effort toward artificial intelligence.
Consensus: Useful Proof of Work (quorum)

Useful Proof of Work
Instead of hashing arbitrary puzzles, Qubic miners run artificial intelligence training tasks. The computing work both ranks miners for the Computor set and contributes to the network AI effort called Aigarth.
Quorum of Computors
The network is run by 676 Computors. A tick is finalized when at least 451 of them agree, so the state is settled by quorum rather than by the longest chain.
Feeless transfers
Sending QUBIC between wallets has no transaction fee. QUBIC is only burned when it is spent as energy to execute a smart contract, while plain transfers stay free.
C++ smart contracts
Qubic smart contracts are written in C++ and run directly on the Computor hardware without a virtual machine, an approach the project calls bare-metal execution.
Ecosystem & usage
What Qubic is used for.
The ecosystem is built around the Aigarth artificial intelligence effort, feeless transfers, and C++ smart contracts.
Mining on Qubic runs AI training tasks rather than arbitrary hashing, contributing to the Aigarth research effort while ranking miners for the Computor set.
Smart contracts
Developers write contracts in C++ that run directly on Computor hardware, executing logic on the network without a virtual machine.
Feeless transfers
QUBIC can be sent between wallets with no transaction fee, with QUBIC only burned when used as energy to run smart contracts.
Qubic is a Layer 1 network that uses useful Proof of Work, directing mining toward artificial intelligence training rather than arbitrary hashing. Its native token is QUBIC and it has been live since April 2022.
What consensus does Qubic use?
Qubic is secured by 676 nodes called Computors. Transactions are grouped into ticks, and a tick is finalized when at least 451 of the 676 Computors agree, giving instant finality.
Are Qubic transactions feeless?
Sending QUBIC between wallets has no fee. QUBIC is only burned when it is spent as energy to execute a smart contract, while standard transfers remain free.
What is Aigarth?
Aigarth is the research effort that Qubic mining feeds. Because mining runs AI training tasks, the computing work contributes toward the network goal of developing artificial intelligence.
Can I hold QUBIC in Zypto App?
Not yet. QUBIC isn't in Zypto App at the moment. You can hold it in any self-custodial wallet, and you can ask us to add Qubic using the "Request Qubic" button above.
