Movement
MOVE
Movement is a Move-based Layer 2 that settles to Ethereum and runs the Move language through the MoveVM, with MOVE as the native token for fees and staking.
Movement brings the Move programming language to Ethereum through a Layer 2 that executes Move smart contracts and settles to Ethereum. Its MoveVM-based execution layer supports both Move and EVM bytecode, and its public mainnet beta went live in 2025. Here is how it works and what it is used for, not the price.

Movement uses a staking-based settlement mechanism called Fast Finality Settlement, where validators stake MOVE to confirm state transitions, similar in spirit to Ethereum’s Proof of Stake. Transactions are ordered by a decentralized shared sequencer running Byzantine fault tolerant consensus, and the design aims for finality in seconds without the long challenge windows of optimistic rollups.

Move language
A programming language originally developed for financial assets, designed with resource safety in mind, used to write smart contracts on Movement.
MoveVM
Movement’s execution environment runs Move bytecode and also supports EVM bytecode, so developers can target both ecosystems.
Fast Finality Settlement
A staking-based settlement model in which validators stake MOVE to confirm state, aiming for fast finality without long dispute periods.
Ethereum settlement
Movement settles to Ethereum, anchoring its security to the Ethereum network.
Ecosystem & usage
What Movement is used for.
Movement hosts Move-based DeFi applications, tooling, and projects that use its MoveVM execution and Ethereum settlement.
Movement is a Move-based Layer 2 that settles to Ethereum. It runs the Move programming language through the MoveVM and aims for fast finality while anchoring security to Ethereum.
How does Movement reach consensus?
Movement uses Fast Finality Settlement, a staking-based mechanism where validators stake MOVE to confirm state transitions. A decentralized shared sequencer running Byzantine fault tolerant consensus orders transactions.
What is MOVE used for?
MOVE pays transaction fees and is staked by validators who confirm state transitions under Fast Finality Settlement.
What is the Move language?
Move is a programming language originally created for handling financial assets, designed with resource safety in mind. Movement runs Move contracts through the MoveVM.
Can I hold MOVE in Zypto App?
Not yet. MOVE isn't in Zypto App at the moment. You can hold it in any self-custodial wallet, and you can ask us to add Movement using the "Request Movement" button above.
