DeSo is a Layer 1 blockchain purpose-built for social applications, storing posts, follows, and other storage-heavy data on-chain, with the native token DESO.
DeSo is a Layer 1 blockchain designed from the start to store social data, such as posts, profiles, and follows, directly on-chain rather than only financial transactions. Here is how it works and what it is used for, not the price.
Total value locked (DeFi)
n/a
Value locked in DeFi protocols on DeSo. Updated Jun 8, 2026. Source: DefiLlama.
DeSo runs a Proof of Stake design it calls Revolution, built on the Fast HotStuff consensus algorithm. Validators stake DESO to secure the network and confirm blocks in seconds. Rather than penalizing validators by destroying their stake, unresponsive validators are temporarily jailed, and stake can be unlocked after a short waiting period.
Consensus: Revolution Proof of Stake
DeSo runs a Proof of Stake design it calls Revolution, built on the Fast HotStuff consensus algorithm. Validators stake DESO to secure the network and confirm blocks in seconds. On-chain social data
Posts, profiles, follows, and similar records are stored on the blockchain itself, so applications can read and write the same shared social graph.
Fast HotStuff
A Byzantine fault tolerant consensus algorithm that finalizes blocks in a small number of communication rounds, which DeSo uses to confirm blocks quickly.
Fee burning
DESO is burned as a fee on every transaction, which reduces the circulating supply as network activity grows.
Creator and social tokens
The protocol has native features for creator coins and social tokens, letting profiles and communities issue assets tied to their identity.
Ecosystem & usage
What DeSo is used for.
DeSo is aimed at decentralized social networks and other applications that need to store large amounts of user data on-chain.
Decentralized social apps
Building social networks where the underlying posts and follows live on a shared public ledger.
Creator monetization
Issuing creator coins and social tokens tied to a profile or community.
Data ownership
Letting users own and carry their social data across applications instead of locking it to one platform.
In Zypto App
Hold, swap and spend DESO.
DeSo is integrated in Zypto App. Hold DESO in self-custody, swap it to any supported asset, and use it across Zypto’s features.
DeSo is a Layer 1 blockchain built specifically for social applications. It stores social data such as posts, profiles, and follows on-chain, with DESO as its native token.
What consensus does DeSo use?
DeSo uses a Proof of Stake design called Revolution, built on the Fast HotStuff consensus algorithm, with validators staking DESO to confirm blocks in seconds.
When did DeSo launch?
The DeSo blockchain emerged in 2021, after the BitClout application that first demonstrated the protocol earlier that year.
How is the DESO supply managed?
DESO is burned as a fee on every transaction, so the supply becomes more scarce as network usage increases.
Can I hold DESO in Zypto App?
Not yet. DESO isn't in Zypto App at the moment. You can hold it in any self-custodial wallet, and you can ask us to add DeSo using the "Request DeSo" button above.
