Verus is a Layer 1 network that pairs a hybrid Proof of Powerconsensus with VerusID self-sovereign identity and Public Blockchains as a Service (PBaaS). The native coin is VRSC.
Verus combines mining and staking in one consensus design and adds an identity layer and tooling for launching independent, interoperable chains. Here is how it works and what it is used for, not the price.

Verus splits block production 50/50 between Proof of Work miners and Proof of Stakevalidators in a model the project calls Proof of Power. Each block depends on both groups, so an attacker would need to dominate hashpower and stake at the same time. The VerusHash algorithm is designed to keep CPU mining competitive with specialized hardware.
Consensus: Proof of Power (hybrid PoW/PoS)

Proof of Power
A hybrid consensus where Proof of Work and Proof of Stake each contribute half of block security, intended to resist 51% attacks.
VerusID
A self-sovereign identity system on the blockchain that can hold funds, sign transactions, and store data without a central registrar.
PBaaS
Public Blockchains as a Service let anyone launch an independent chain that interoperates with Verus and inherits its security model.
VerusHash
The CPU-friendly hash algorithm used for mining, designed to narrow the gap between general-purpose and specialized hardware.
Ecosystem & usage
What Verus is used for.
The Verus ecosystem centers on identity, interoperable chains, and a fair-launch coin earned through mining and staking.
Verus is a Layer 1 blockchain that uses a hybrid Proof of Work and Proof of Stake consensus and adds on-chain identity and tools for launching interoperable chains. Its native coin is VRSC.
What consensus does Verus use?
Verus uses Proof of Power, a hybrid that splits block security evenly between Proof of Work mining and Proof of Stake validation.
What is VerusID?
VerusID is a self-sovereign identity system built into the blockchain. An identity can hold funds, sign transactions, and store data without relying on a central provider.
What is PBaaS?
PBaaS, or Public Blockchains as a Service, lets anyone launch an independent blockchain that interoperates with Verus and inherits its security design.
Can I hold VRSC in Zypto App?
Not yet. VRSC isn't in Zypto App at the moment. You can hold it in any self-custodial wallet, and you can ask us to add Verus using the "Request Verus" button above.
