Decentralized Social, known as DeSo, is a Layer 1 blockchain built specifically to support social media and other storage-heavy applications. Posts, profiles, and social graphs are stored directly on-chain, which the project designed to make on-chain social activity far cheaper than posting data to general-purpose chains.

DESO is the native coin of the network. It pays for transactions and on-chain actions and underpins native features such as creator coins, tipping, and NFTs. The protocol was founded in 2019 and its mainnet launched in 2021, supported by the DeSo Foundation.
