Concordium is a Layer 1 blockchain, meaning it is a base network in its own right rather than a layer built on top of another chain. Its defining feature is an identity layer built into the protocol itself, designed so that verified users can transact with privacy while still meeting regulatory requirements. It uses zero-knowledge proofs so people can prove things about themselves without exposing the underlying data.

CCD is the network's native token. It is used to pay for transactions, to run code on the network, and for staking that helps secure the chain. Concordium launched its mainnet in 2021.
