Ergo

ERG

Ergo is a Proof-of-Work Layer 1 that extends Bitcoin’s UTXO model into an extended UTXO (eUTXO) design, letting individual coins carry scripts and data so it can run complex smart contracts while staying ASIC-resistant. Its native token is ERG.

Overview

Ergo en un coup d'œil.

Ergo launched its mainnet in July 2019 with no ICO and no pre-mine for its founders, built around extending Bitcoin’s UTXO transaction model with smart-contract capability. Here is how it works and what it is used for, not the price.

Comment ça marche

Comment Ergo fonctionne.

Ergo mines blocks with Autolykos, a memory-hard proof-of-work algorithm designed to resist ASICs and stay GPU-friendly, so mining power stays more accessible than on ASIC-dominated chains. Rather than Bitcoin’s simple UTXO model, Ergo uses an extended UTXO (eUTXO) design: each unspent output can carry arbitrary data and a script, so a single coin can encode conditions for how and when it can be spent, enabling smart contracts without an account-based model like Ethereum’s. The network launched on Autolykos v1 and moved to the current Autolykos v2 via "The Hardening" hard fork in February 2021, which removed a non-outsourceable-puzzle constraint so mining could be pooled.

Extended UTXO (eUTXO)

Ergo builds on Bitcoin’s UTXO model but lets each unspent output carry scripts and arbitrary data, enabling smart contracts while keeping UTXO-style parallelism and predictability.

Autolykos mining

Autolykos is a memory-hard Proof-of-Work algorithm intended to resist specialized ASIC hardware, keeping mining more accessible to ordinary GPUs.

Storage rent

Long-unused coins are subject to a small periodic storage rent, a mechanism designed to keep miners economically incentivized once block rewards taper off, rather than relying on transaction fees alone.

Capped, no-premine supply

Ergo launched with no ICO and no pre-allocation for its founders, and its supply is hard-capped at roughly 97.7 million ERG.

Ecosystem & usage

À quoi Ergo sert.

Ergo’s ecosystem is built around privacy-preserving and zero-knowledge-friendly smart contracts, along with a small but active decentralized finance community.

DefiLlama

Smart contracts on a UTXO chain

Developers can write contracts using Ergo’s eUTXO model, which supports patterns not easily expressed in Bitcoin’s plain UTXO system.

Zero-knowledge applications

Ergo’s scripting language has built-in support for zero-knowledge proofs, making it a base for privacy-preserving applications.

Decentralized finance

A small DeFi ecosystem, including DEXs and lending, runs on Ergo’s smart-contract layer.

FAQ

Questions fréquentes.

Qu’est-ce qu’Ergo ?
Ergo is a Proof-of-Work Layer 1 that launched in July 2019. It extends Bitcoin’s UTXO model to support smart contracts, using an approach called extended UTXO (eUTXO).
What is Autolykos?
Autolykos is Ergo’s Proof-of-Work mining algorithm. It is designed to be memory-hard and resistant to specialized ASIC hardware.
What is storage rent on Ergo?
Storage rent is a small periodic fee on long-unused coins, designed to keep miners economically incentivized as block rewards decline over time.
How is Ergo different from Bitcoin?
Ergo keeps Bitcoin’s UTXO-based transaction model but extends it so each coin can carry scripts and data, enabling smart contracts that plain Bitcoin UTXOs cannot support.
Can I hold ERG in Zypto App?
Pas encore. ERG n'est pas dans Zypto App pour le moment. Vous pouvez le conserver dans n'importe quel portefeuille en self-custody, et vous pouvez nous demander d'ajouter Ergo via le bouton « Demander Ergo » ci-dessus.
