Qubic is a Layer 1 blockchain that aims for feeless transactions, fast finality, and smart contracts. It uses a quorum of validators, called Computors, to reach agreement, and a design it calls useful proof of work, which redirects mining computation toward AI training rather than discarding it. That AI effort feeds a project named Aigarth, the network's longer-term research into machine intelligence.

The QUBIC token is used for transactions and participation in the network, and it is burned through on-chain smart-contract launches the project refers to as IPOs. Qubic's mainnet went live in April 2022. It was founded by Sergey Ivancheglo, also known as Come-from-Beyond, who previously co-founded IOTA.
