Cos'è Optimism?
Optimism is a Layer 2 network that scales Ethereum, and OP Mainnet is its main chain. Like other optimistic rollups, it groups transactions, processes them off-chain, and submits them to Ethereum for settlement, which keeps fees low while leaning on Ethereum for security. OP Mainnet went live in December 2021. The team also maintains the OP Stack, an open-source framework that other projects use to launch their own L2 chains.
The OP token launched in 2022 and powers governance through the Optimism Collective. A Token House of OP holders votes on protocol decisions, while a Citizens' House directs funding toward projects that benefit the ecosystem. As with most Ethereum rollups, network fees on OP Mainnet are paid in ETH, not OP.
OP is an ERC-20 token native to OP Mainnet, with a version also available on Ethereum. You can track the Optimism price and store OP in a self-custody wallet under your own control.
